Been asked before---Mini starter
I'm thinking about switching over to a high torque mini starter that I read about on the forum a while back.
Can someone please post what application starter would fit a small block 1971 with auto. I sort of remember it being from a mid 90's pickup

The one I have is--I've been told--used on late model GMC and Chevy trucks with a 454 engine. It works great. One little problem is that it doesn't have the "R" terminal, which bypasses the resistor wire and supplies 12V to the coil while you're starting the engine. But if you're still running a Pertronix module, you might not have any problem with that (and if you do, it can be solved by intalling a relay to play the role of the "R" terminal).

I'm using a 97 GM Truck 454 starter. However, I have a big-block. Don't know if it will fit a small block. It was $139 from autozone. Box said rebuilt, but it was a new Delco. Absolutely love it. Weighs 8lbs (stock was 24lbs).

shoptek, Chevy and GMC trucks from 94 and up are what you want. I think initially they were on big blocks, but were later put on big and small blocks. The nose cone looks just like any GM starter, just the body of the starter is small and light. I put one on my 350 and it cranks so good. It really spins the engine over very fast.
