I see the name Lars come up a lot. Most recently in reference to a carb tuning. I dont know who Lars is, but it seems that I should.
Can someone steer me in the right direction?
Just do a search for username "Lars". You will get all the info you need. But seriously, he is an ex-GM engineer who is willing to share his info with anyone and is an overall great guy. He used to offer a carb rebuild service (may still do it as far as I know) and is the man for Corvette tuning.
Lars is recovering from surgery. I visited with him a couple weeks ago. He was well on his way to recovery. He hasn't been posting recently. I would wait for him to start posting again before bothering him with carb questions.
There should be a wealth of Lars info in the archives.
Webster's defines LARS - A very knowledgeable individual with an abundance of correct and most often detailed information. A much respected member of Corvette Forum!
Search carb or distributor or timing. His name and input is everywhere.
I didn't know that, he must be a very quick healer! I emailed him last Sunday morning about setting up a Speed Demon for me. He emailed me back with the info for shipping. I shipped it Monday, he received it Wednesday, and Friday he emailed me saying it was complete and ready to be shipped tomorrow. He also described the work performed and that he checked it on two different engines, a roller 420sb, and a 350. He even emailed me pictures, now that's great service!!!
I'm looking for a base setup on a Holley 650 on a 350. Crank and pistons are stock, cam is new, new 2.02 heads with an air gap manifold.
Right now I have a 5.5 power valve, 70 jets in front and 72's in the secondary. My idle vacuum is right around 11.
This has a mechanical seconday and mechanical choke.
Seems a little rich to me.
He's the kind of guy who would finish all his queued carb rebuilds with one hand if he had a debilitating spinal injury preventing the use of both... true story. He's usually hammer in one hand, cool brew in the other so I hope he had on his beer helmet or the tolerances on those one-handed carbs may be a little off!
Seriously, glad to hear the recovery is going well. And do give the guy a break and let him use his non-beer hand for other things for a little while.
