Default Lower steering column bearing

Does the lower steering column bearing just get presed on/off the steering shaft. I have measured mine and it is exactly 4 1/2 inches from the end. It is rusted on and it looks like it is just pressed on. I'll put a puller onit if needed and slide it off.

Ive never done this job, but in what Ive read -with regards to Steeroids installs, this bearing is just supposed to slide on-off, with some light BFH persuasion.

This one was going to need some heavy hammering. Instead ijust took a dremel and cut the bearing in half. The inner race was not going to to move so I cut that also. Shaft is pretty rusty. I'll clean it up and put some emery cloth to it and the new one should slide with a little work back on.

Maybe Jim Shea will chime in. He is the expert.

Like you said use some emery paper on the shaft. Soak the bearing around the shaft with so PB. It should slide off.

Its off now. I had to cut it off but on the way back on I'll clean the shaft up so it should slide on. The bearing was in pretty rough shape.

YOu did what you had to do to get off the bearing.Adapt and overcome-wait wasnt that in some marine movie.Seriously they should come out very easily- itook the lower 2 bolts from steering column out and collar from engine compartment and just wiggled and took a pick and it fell out.
