Default Removal or A/C harness?

In a factory A/C car, if the owner wants to remove what's left of the factory A/C wiring, can it just be cut off at the harness right after the wiper motor without affecting anything else?

All of the wiring for the A/C system is unplugged and hanging. Instead of just looming, the owner would like to have it all removed. I don't have a wiring diagram for the car, and was wondering if there was a reason not to just lop off the wiring at the harness and tape it up.

Thanks,

If it were my car, DB, I wouldn't cut the wires. You never know, someone might want to reinstall the a/c down the road. I would tape up the wiring and tuck it some place where it can't be seen. You know me by now, I like originality.

Just doesn't sound...... right. I'd be pretty leery of it.

OTOH, is he going to sell me his AC system forward of the firewall?

DB,

I think that if you seperate the harness out, back underr the dash, it does not affect any thing other than it self. Is the owner wanting to save the heater? If so you will need the wire to the fan.

You sholud find that it has the clutch plug and maybe a low system plug.

That harness should break out into a sub-harness back to the controls.

I'm sure it will not affect other parts from operating and some will post a diagram.

Bubba hacked mine into right where it comes out of the firewall. I ordered a new harness and noticed there are a couple of grounds that were not completed as a result and as said earlier, the fan wont work.

The owner has no need for the A/C box or wiring, doesn't ever use the heater or fan, so that aspect is moot. In fact, had we had more time, the A/C box would have been removed to make way for a custom delete plate that would cover the hole the heater core was in and there would be no fan.

I disassembled the harness to the ignition and found only one ground wire tracing back to a ground wire junction, which seemed to be a ground to the wiper motor. The rest seem to offer nothing if the A/C stuff is not used.

The owner and I are in agreement that if he has no plans to sell the car, there is no need to keep that part of the harness, and it would look a lot cleaner and tidy if it was removed, and the harness was re-loomed after it's been trimmed.

Thanks for the input.

I just wanted to make sure that nothing would

Just realize that you're going to take a pretty big "hit" if you ever want to sell it [later]. If the wiring is intact, at least the factory system could be re-installed.

even though I put on a new harness, I still dont have all the ac components. I just taped the ends up and reloomed it and ran it under the fender out of sight until I find all the pieces parts!

The harness is far from stock anyway, with lots of cut ends and spliced terminals. I doubt the A/C would have worked anyway if it WAS installed, because the wiring for it is so trashed.

I can say with some confidence that the car won't ever be sold with stock retentions, let alone sold at all.

If the harness is that bad, would it not be better off replaced with a non air harness? Is the car used for racing where the complete harness is not needed?

I understand completely. I just wanted to make sure that aside from the shared ground in that part of the harness that there wasn't something else that wouldn't function if it was trimmed down.

As far as I know, GM went to some effort to make minimize multiple circuits affecting each other. If you unplug what you don't want to keep...and the rest of the car's systems still operate OK, I think you won't have a problem if you just want to cut wires.
