I purchased a 69 with a Munci M21 4 speed as a project car. The interior was apart and in boxes when I got the car. Here is my problem. When trying to install the new center console and the shifter plate, the shifter plate would not go on as the shifter handle was hitting it on the passenger side. This would be opposite of what would normally happen with a Hurst shifter as I undersatnd. I could get the plate to go on if I put the handle on the left side of the lever, put it still hit the plate on the bottom. The shifter has an off set of about 2 inches as it comes up out of the shifter. Do I have the wrong shifter for this appliction? Any help would be appreciated. I do have the original shifter. Any suggestions on going back to original?
Maybe someone installed the shifter mount plate backwards? I've got a Hurst in mine and it fit perfectly. Stick comes right up the center of the console. It's a straight stick. did you say yours is offset?
You cant go wrong with the OEM stuff. I have both sold and used Hurst shifters and never really liked them as comparied to the originals. I could have had a free one installed from George at the US Nationals one year when I used the 62 to pull one of our race cars down there and he saw the OEM shifter in the Vette. I never told him In didn`t want it even as a gift.
