Default Reverse Lock Out Cable Bracket

My 69 had no reverse cable lock out to the steering column. I have purchased the cable and the two holding brackets that mount on the 4sp transmission. I can not find a bracket for the end of the cable that mounts to the stearing column lock out lever on the fire wall. It is not in my manuals and I can not it in any of the typical corvette parts stores.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also the cable has one end with a rubber boot. Does that go to transmission side or the stearing column side.

the bracket is part of the oval plate on the bottom end of the column. i placed the boot end facing up at the column end.

Should be and easy part to find off a parted out car as I think the automatic part is the same as the four speed.

I'll look at mine again when I get home today. There is a plate under and partially around the column, but I saw no hole for the cable.

thanks

To adjust that cable you turn the bracket to a point when your four speed is in reverse that the key can be removed.

That cable bracket was only used from 1969 through 1976. No cables after 1976.

I have no plate installed around the steering column. I'll have to find one somewhere.

Here is a picture of the steering column mounting and the plate "N" that you need.

The plate should come with one stud permanently attached so that it sticks into the driver compartment. There is a second bolt "M" (the one on the left side of the plate) that is loose. You can see the cable, plate, and mounting hardware in the blowup at the top.

Jim, Thanks. The drawing is an obvious big help. Where did you get it? It's a lot better than my Assembly Manual.

I am pretty sure that I scanned it from my 1971 Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual. That manual is pretty complete. The drawback is that it covers Impalas, Chevelles, Camaros, Corvettes, and Novas. So sometimes it gets pretty complicated trying to fish out just the Corvette stuff.

That is why I have written some of my papers on disassembly and repair of steering columns and other steering parts.

In case you haven't taken a look you might want to go to:
