Okay, I'll bite... I am currently a very pi$$ed off employee of a major chemical company. I support, maintain, install and convert process monitoring and control computer systems. Currently I have 12 different systems that I am responsible for, they range from 20 year old PDP-11 based systems thru semi ancient Vax based systems to the latest and greatest Intel based systems.
I hate computers!
:mad
PDP-11?? Good grief, I cut my teeth on those things, didn't know there were still some around!! I think the old Vax systems are probably what started my mental deterioration :(
I feel your pain - I really do, try connecting all those systems together with Routers running over expensive dial-up satellite links, with Scrooge himself in control of Accounts & wanting to know the reason for every single call made :cry
I should have been a Lumberjack.

I'm a mathematician, and (Lord help me!) must be receiving my Ph.D. degree in May. What exactly I do? I teach and do research--the main result of my doctoral work being the proof of rationality and explicit calculation of the Hilbert-Kunz functions of a wide variety of polynomials, through the introduction of new concepts such as p-Fractals and triple resultants. ARGH!
-Pedro
Pedro, are P-Fractals any relation to P-branes? Are you one of those people working on M theory? That's heavy stuff! :yesnod:
I´m working as a mechanical engineer for a elevator company.
My job is called Service Engineer and what I do is calculating and designing elevator parts, and supervising modification operations to modernize old elevators.
I made a 5 year lasting engineering school in Vienna, so I guess this makes me a "real engineer"? :jester :p:
Superintendent of Water for the City.
21 years of service so far. Have a degree in Accounting, boy did I waste some time getting that! Its not doing me very much good. And so it goes ....
For that one guy, Architect is very different from Engineer, they always think they can do our work. Engineering is a loosely used term because it is such a broad field nowadays....saying you're an engineer means nothing. The PE's are the REAL engineers (in the consulting field, at least). Not as important to have in the industrial setting, because you only have a boss to keep happy!
I hope you are not talking about me. A/E firms have both Registered Architects and Professional Engineers under one roof. I have both under my supervision as a Project Manager.
Licensed Customs House Broker - Systems Analyst. General manager of one of the largest broker in town, distributors of the best Mexican beer CORONA.

I'm a Senior Unix Systems Administrator for AOL. My systems are an inproportionate blend of HP-UX, Solaris and Linux. My main areas of responsibilty is the personal finance systems for AOL, Compuerve, and Netscape. If you go to keyword quotes on aol that's my area. We're getting ready to replace the quicken garbage off of aol.com with this: http://pfweb.aol.com. It's a very simple server setup. The Stuff on AOL is where the complicated stuff lives.
Note: I have no control over the look and feel of this stuff, I know some of it is pretty bad. It's stability and scaling is where I play the major role.
Degree is Mechanical Engineering with design and mechatronics concentrations. Now working in merto Detroit doing body design for one of the Big 3. Current project is rear doors for an all new sedan due out in 2004.
If the company keeps going they way it is, I may be working at Home Depot by spring.
