If this is a typical DC motor set up, the high position would bypass the resistor sending full voltage to the motor to turn max speed. There must be a connection or wire that is seperate of the resistor from the power source to the fan. Do you have a wiring diagram?

Wires coming off of there go several places, on of them goes to the fuse. if it's not there, post your year and and question for it's location on forum.

designed that way. no CO.

it goes from the fuse, then into a wire harness over to the blower motor relay.
I give up!!!! cant find it.

check the grey wire push on terminal of the AC relay, if removed it will cause no high ,but lower speeds will work

dont give UP, 78 is a little different from older models. orange wire goes from selector switch to high speed blower relay.and controls it, it has no inline fuse, uses the same fuse as rest of ac system.
there is a red wire on high speed blower relay that supplies power directly from starter positive terminal to the blower motor. that red wire goes through a large connector with several wires right above the right valve cover next to ac box. check that connector for corossion and power.

connectors are shown at bottom of page in figure C & D c406 c403

The OP was about a 78 and then we switched to a 76.
