My engine is producing a very noticeable ticking, I used a hose to pin-point where is it comming from. It seems to come from the intake manifold ????
Any ideas how to locate the source?
Regards
Now that I think about it, both times that I had that problem it was with a new fuel pump. Not one that just suddenly started doing it. Still worth checking.
sorry, When I said manifold I was refering to intake , the sound is quite loud you can perfectly hear it with the hood closed but I can´t tell where is it coming from.
The fuel pump is new ......... a rod bearing :(
How can I check the exhaust 4 leaks?
Thanks 4 the help, this forum is the BEST !!!!!!!!!!
What works good for checking exhaust leaks is a 'punk'. You know, the the sticks you light fireworks with that do not burn with a flame but just smoke. With a running engine, just move it around the exhaust system and if it leaks you will find it. I suppose you could also use an incense stick too, at least if you find a leak you'll be calm. :D
Sometimes holding a rag to the tail pipe will load the leak enough to make it louder. The exhaust is hot so be careful. If this makes the sound louder its exhaust.
Are you sure it isn't a lifter out of adjustment?
You may need to check your rocker arms. A "loose" rocker arm will tick each time the pushrod lifts it, and it can be quite loud. It will often seem to come from the intake manifold or the exhaust system. Hope this helps.
Bingo !!!!!!!!!
There were 16 "Loose" rockers ????????
All of the rockers had no preload and some even had lash.
Sounding like a Vette againg!!!!!!!! no more sewing machine noise.
