Anyone know how difficult it is to replace the stripping on the t-tops of an 80? What's a good price for the parts? As you can tell, I'm new at doing my own repairs. Is this something a novice can do? I had a shop tell me that it would cost around $700 for them to do it. That seems nuts to me. What do you guys think?
Heheh, I just made a similar post early this week...first off, $700 is utter B.S. The quoters should be shot.
Thus far I've gutted out the old weatherstrip and cleaned off all the glue. The issue I'm having is lining the strip up with top. Before glueing the strip I simply screwed and plugged it in place...trouble is when I tried putting the tops on and it's snagging on something, not allowing for a clean fit. Anyway, I'll figure it out. It's not that hard. Give her a shot!
This is a job you can do at home with little or no experience.
The 80 weatherstrips are a little different than the set illustrated in the FAQ section. The main difference is the absence of the weatherstrip retainer which was made in to the weatherstrips after mid production 77.
We have the CRC Brand T-top weatherstrips here, 89.00 a pair.
When on the topic!
3M super adhesive can't be send by air, leaving us European guys searching for alternatives. Are there any? I contacted 3M they can't ship it eighter!! So frustrating I can almost see the 3M office from where I live.
