I trust you already removed the shock supports from the bearing carrier fork?
HA....no kidding,I'm cutting those suckers, got new ones anyways..First year I bought the vette I brought it to m,y mechanic to have a rear bearing change, and he broke one of the fork while trying to get it out.Had to get the fork welded and he also had to weld the castle nut on there,so that's why i'm cutting them off.
It will be much easier to work it on the bench vise.....
it aint over yet ! i hope those suckers come apart easy for you.
have a press ? bearing set up tool ?
Ya I have a press I'm going to use at my father-in-law's workshop.I'm building my own bushing tool..Bearings are new.

This job sounds like a real PITA but, seems like a necessary one. I just don't want to do it right away unless I have to; want to use my money where it's needed the most.
BTW, congratulations on finally getting your trailing arms out.
I knew my bushings were worn out plus it needed an alignment. There was no way in HELL that that was possible without redoing the rear.
And yes, most ppl say it is a PITA to remove the T/A.
I will feel much better when I start to reassemble .should be much easier
There should be a badge of honor for T/A removal. One job I am glad is behind me. Just don't do like me and think.. You know.. those body mounts are right there and easier to get to... Why not?!?!
well I broke off one of the forks from the knuckle that holds the shock mount...I think it's made of cast iron.It broke at the exact same place where it was welded before....
Is it because the weld was weak or was it normal since I was trying to get the shock mount out.Is re-welding it gonna be safe...Thoughts?
Well I got 'er all together again and laid her down on all 4 tires last Saturday,Now this is the problem I have...
First my camber is way too negative and I centered the camber bolt,I thought it would've been closer than that after replacing the bushings with poly ones,But the alignment should take care of that anyways.
Second,is my toe on the left side. Before I took it apart I could see the front of the tire was pointing outwards..Since I bought new tires and was in need of an alignment I redone the rear suspension(the only thing I didn't touch was the leaf spring).
I had equal amount of shims on both sides if the trailing arm(left side),so when re-assembling I put only 2 thin shims on the inside and packed the outside with other shims. When trying out the car around the block and back home I noticed the left rear wheel is still visible to my eye that it has too much toe out.
How is this possible? It's going in for an alignment this wednesday but something tells me that he won't be able to get the correct specs.
Am I just being paranoid or could I have a more serious problem...
Wow, I feel lucky. Mine came off so easy I don't even remember doing them. I had to go back and look at pictures of the disassembly to refresh my memory. With that kind of corrosion how does your birdcage look?
While reading about all your work I broke out in a cold sweats thinking about the long hours I spent hunkered up under my car removing the trailing arms bolts and shims. Be sure you clean the area where the trailing arms go, paint with a rust encapsulator, and a good rust preventive paint. Replace everything with stainless steel.
