Default Side pipe car, no holes

Have a 69 that had side pipes removed before I got it and now I'm going to run under car exhaust.Has anyone done this and how to route it in the rear with the rear valence for side pipes(no holes for exhaust). Any pics?.

The routing is the same as a regular one, except the outlet. When I first got mine, it had junk after-market sidepipes that I tossed and ran a conventional system. I bought a replacement rear panel and cut it slightly inboard of the stock location (which is halfway on each side of the body line). This worked, but I had a "creative" set of outlet pipes from the muffler, definitely not "performance"! It was too quiet for me, so that system is gathering dust in my rafters and I made a custom set of 4" sidepipes. Very happy with those.

Too bad your across the country, I'd make you a heck of a deal on the pipes and mufflers. Only hade 'em on the car a few weeks.

Thanks for the reply and offer.Did you actually cut out the fiberglass rear valence for the pipes to exit?.

If you go with the 74 and later style mufflers and tips, they will turn down in the rear and clear the valence.
PS: if you have a true sidepipe car, the rear fenders are unique to them. You do not really want to cut them just in case you or some future owner may want to go back to sidepipes.

I did cut the valance that I bought, then installed a set of the chrome trim pieces that I trimmed the inside part off of and then screwed them to the valance with some tiny stainless screws.

Great point. You definitely want to just trim the valance, if anything. That's why I bought a replacement to cut, so that I'd have the original part if needed.

This car was a 69 convertible 427 4 speed with side pipes I'm told. There is no tank sticker so only the rear valence with no cut outs is what I'm going by.I suppose I could buy a non-side pipe car rear valence and sell this one instead of cutting it out.

Buy the valence with the cutout. The cutout has a reinforcement drilled for attaching the exhaust bezel.

Your factory original rear valance for a factory sidepipe car should bring in a lot of bucks on ebay. I bought one. Forget what I paid, but it was expensive. They are pretty rare.

The factory rear exhaust valance only has half the cut-out on the end, the other half being on the fender. It could probably be made to work, however.

Does it by chance have A/C? I'd love to see a production date if it does.

best scenario would be to install the 74 exhaust as mentioned earlier. You have a very desirable piece. Another option would be to install spiral baffles in the side pipes in lieu of the factory pipes...Yes. spiral baffles are available for side pipe cars, both C2 and C3.

Bonehead,
If your 69 is a real side-exhaust car make sure you don't hurt the original valance panel or quarter panels. They're very nice ($$$) to have to go along with the car.
Regards,
Alan

This is a 71 with the quarter panel modified and an original 69 valance panel.
