Low pressure switch shut off. If you can jumper the switch and your compressor kicks in, you are low on freon, and possibly have a leak.
Low pressure switch is located just under the fender on the passenger side. Make up a small jumper wire, remove the two wire plug from the switch and install the jumper wire in the plug. If the compressor starts then you're low on refrigerant. Don't run it like that, it's a safety feature.

one thing to keep in mind is that the switch can fail to and jumping the switch will not let you know wether it is the switch or low on freon. Really need to check it with a set of gauges.

If your system has refrigerant, you need to engage the compressor and check the pressures with gauges.
