Have the engine running and cam broken in for 30 minutes.
Drives well with slight rumble at idle, but smooth and pulls strong to 3500 with just a little trottle, I do not think the secondaries have opened yet.
Have only to re-adjust the valves, some valve train clatter.
Timing not right, 8 degrees at 600 RPM and 18 at 2500 with no vacuum to the distributor. Had to replace the old one that was rusted shut. Installed Mr. Gasket adjustable vacuum can and lighter springs, was working OK before?? Will try it to fix over the weekend.
I was looking through your pics, trying to see if you had to remove the radiator to get the cam in...but I can't tell. Did you have to remove it, or where you able to get the cam in with just removing the fan?
I removed the coolant radiator and tyied to take the cam out. 1" left in the engine and the dowel pin on the end of the cam hit the condensor radiator.
Had to unbolt that rad and tilt it so I could get the cam out and had to remove the lower air dam and lower valance to get at the two bolts holding the condensor.
So ... what cam did you install with your vortec upgrade? Specs, p/n? I looked at your pics ... seems you did not use roller rockers ... IMHO most folks don't need 'em ... I commend you for choosing stamped. Are rockers self-aligning aka rail-type made for vortecs?

I was trying to put together a list of parts, keep getting sidelined.
