Default radiator crud

Looking into the radiator of my 74 L48 you can see white crystalline crud collected at the end of each tube. No overheating problems, stays at 170 all day even in the heat, but the crud bothers me. Is there a real radiator flush that can be bought that will dissolve this stuff and leave a bright shiny new looking radiator?

It's no longer in production ... but check your local GM dealer pts dept old stock for GM p/n 12346500 ... it's actually Prestone p/n AS100 that too is no longer in production .. it's a strong oxalic acid powder and it really works when used as directed ... NOTHING comparable is currently in production for over counter sale. I doubt your 170F ...'specially after SC's very hi mid-spring +100F days ... check yours with a known t'meter. If it has had the wrong sender installed during it's 34 years ... it can easily read low or hi. Call every GM pts dept for p/n 12346500 and replace t'stat and get a correct sender from lectriclimited.com.

You can find oxalic acid in a diluted form from most marine stores. They sell it as a bottom cleaner.
Should you use it in your rad as a system cleaner........thats for you to answer!!!

Buy a jug of radiator cleaner at your local car parts store. Do exactly as the instructions say. You should also change out the thermostat with a 180 F hi-flo unit and a new gasket. Refill with 50/50 Dexcool/water. You will notice a considerable improvement.

This the oxalic acid in powder form. Mix it as strong as you want. Be sure to flush and neutralize it afterwards.
