Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the help so far. This forum has saved me a lot of grief and been very informative. I can tell I'm very close to getting my car running again but I can't seem to figure the last part out. I've searched past threads but nothing has worked so far. The problem started when I changed the fuel line between the pump and the carb. I know I'm getting a good spark and fuel is shooting from the jets into the bowls. If I use the throttle too much, gas seeps out of the front left corner of the carb, but not a lot. Could the float be stuck? How could changing the fuel line cause this kind of problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm moving this week so I need to get this thing running. If this doesn't work, I'll need to take it to somebody. Any recommendations for the Chattanooga area? Thanks.
What probably happened is when you changed the line you had a piece of trash in the new line and it lodged between the needle and seat (rubber, dirt etc.) It doesn't take much.

Thats where the accelerator pump is.The accelerator discharge ports are in the upper part of carb and the pump in the center. There is a gasket between the two,i wonder if the fuel is coming out there between the center and top.Did you crank down on the 1/2 bolts holding the carb down possibly warping the upper air horn?

Went ahead and rebuilt my carb. Car actually cranked and was idling. I tried to better tune the engine by fiddling with the idle screws on the front. Now it will fire and run as long as keep the throttle open. Otherwise, it backfires and sputters out. How many turns should those screws be set out at? Thanks.
Backed the screws out a turn and a half and the engine fired right up and idled. As soon as I try to drive it up the hill and out the driveway it backfires, sputters and cuts off. The backfires sounds more like metallic "clangs" than "pops". It's got to be a timing issue but I can't figure out if it is gas not getting to the engine because of the angle or ignition not firing in the right sequence. The car is about 1500 ft above sea level but I can't see that being the difference between tuned right/not tuned right. This is driving me crazy but I'm determined to do this on my own (and with your help as well). Thanks guys.
Perhaps you put too much torque on part of the carb body when you disconnected the fuel line. If something got cracked or bent, you may have a fuel leak or an air leak into the carb. [I hope that is not your problem.]
