I've been reading this site for a few months now and although I was just lurking, I appreciate the information available. I bought a 68 convertible 3 months ago and have been getting to know my car and work out the kinks. Anyway, like many of you probably, I registered because I had a problem that stumped me and needed some more experienced help. But the correct solution hit me 3:30 am Tuesday morning.
I thought that I should participate in the discussions when I have something constructive to add in exchange for what I've learned and have yet to learn.
Welcome. We're a great community of guys that all share a passion for these cars and it's a great place to exchange information even when you're not seeking help with something specific to your own car.
Welcome Kevin, I have a 68 bb ragtop that came home in boxes last September and right now the completion meter is at the 70-75% mark. You're in good company, a wealth of knowledge is available here that these great C-3 owners are more than willing to share.
I am fairly new, too. I joined for the same reasons as you. Like you, I recieved a friendly welcome, so I should extend the same to you. Welcome to the club.
The problem was errartically high/normal voltage on the ammetrer, temperature spikes, (70*+ swings in temp in 10 or less seconds) and brightening/dimming lights. All indicators of a bad regulator, which I changed. The one that was in looked brand new, but replaced it anyway,...no change. So I started thinking along the lines of a bad ground and it didn't occur to me (until 3:30 am) when I replaced the old regulator exactly as the old one was that the wheel well is fiberglass...I'm used to working on metal cars and grounding isn't as big of an issue....the learning curve is steep. Added a ground wire from the frame of the regulator to the car frame, problem solved. Also, the two accessories that were grounded to the regulator frame now work too, who'd a thunk? The car has a new wiring harness, so I'm afraid of what I'll find from the previous owner's mechanic. He jacked him for $700 trying to fix a blinker problem (and never did) I fixed for $2 (apparently unaware that the directional signal switch was not on the fuse panel...and this was a Chevy dealer). At least I got a nice lagre laminated wiring diagram wtih the car.... I know, a bad sign
Thanks to those that responded, I look forward to participating.
My file is 124 x 86, or something like that and only 17KB. When I view my profile the image is there. But I also got a message "File upload failed."
Will somebody view my profile and let me know if and image of my red 68 vert is there?
BTW, I did save your (DB) instructions on how to imbed images in a message.
I'm at work and don't have photoshop to resize, but will try it later.
Geez, I can fix a car but this rectangle with all the buttons with letters and numbers in front if me is confusing
Yeah you have a profile picture but I'm confused as to what you were doing. I thought you were trying to upload an avatar, which is the image to the left of all your posts, under your name. That's the one that has to be 100 x 100. The profile picture, which you uploaded, can be a bit larger and I think it auto scales it in case you upload a large image.
You're on the right track, just keep playing with it.
