Someone mentioned once that they has some Corvette speakers reconed at Corvettes Carlisle while they waited. Anyone remember if they saw anyone doing this? I was thinking of bringing a set to have done.
Unbelievable! Why would anyone do something like that? You can buy replacement OEM speakers...and no one but the owner would ever know what's in the dash. [I guess if you are a masochistic perfectionist, it would be OK.]
Primarily I hate like heck to cut the original wires. As it is now it is stock with the clips. I had one that I recently replaced the radio and every wire was cut and spliced with friction tape which made it a PIA. The speakers I have I know will line up and are the right ohms for the radio and will clip easily back in.
I wouldn't waste money on 30yr plus speakers. They have what is called a voice coil. Once that takes a crap you have reconed speakers that wont give you any sound. Flea bay has new 8 ohm speakers that will work. Just un solder the wires off the old and put on the new. Then go listen to 30yr plus radio technolgy at it's best.
Why don't you just un-solder the leads on the original speakers and solder them back on to the new speakers. You can buy decent quality 4x6" speakers (8 ohms each, if original Delco stereo system; 4 ohms each, if mono system) which can be fit to the Corvette speaker frames. That will keep the wires un-cut.
