Default Heater Box

A simple question : is it possible to remove only the heater box without the heater core and hoses???

I've unscrewed the 4 nuts that fixing the heater box to the firewall but I don't know if and how the neater box and the heater core are fixed together?

I don't need to remove the core and hoses but only the box (if is it possibile )

The car it's a 69' coupè without AC

You should be able to get it off without removing the core. The hoses may get in the way though.

Unbolt it and slide the assembly towards the fender

That's what I was getting at. If you unbolt it from the firewall, you should be able to pry it loose and slide it towards the fender to get it off.

I'm in the process of the same project. The problem is that the heater core is screwed to the inside air plenum (the inside air "duct"), but has water lines that project through the firewall into the engine compartment. I had to remove the fan and the engine-side air plenum to get to the screws that attach the core to the inside air plenum and then I could remove the inside air plenum.

When I put it all back together I'm going to pre-mount the core to the inside plenum, put the inside plenum in place, and then carefully attach the engine-side plenum.

By the way, check the vacuum actuators before you reassemble everything! I had a bad 3-position actuator (the one to the left in your photo) which is why I pulled everything apart...

Sorry, your pics didn't come up on my home computer. The inside box on my 73 had a clip inside that held the core in place. Both parts came out together.

That's the point!

If the core is screwed I can't easly remove the housing from the passanger compartment

I'd like to do it for an heater system inspection and specially for an easly recarpeting and insulating work

The engine side removing seems me more difficult because there are some parts bonded :

That outside cover is caulked, not bonded. Have a look at my write-up of years ago. Then get a paint scraper and have at it.
