Easy OD Trans?
What is the easiest OD swap into an 81? Does anyone have a complete kit available? What all is needed?

Bowtieoverdrives.com will have a kit for your car. I suggest the TH2004R.

My gray matter is telling me the 82 was the first year of od (700r4) and the 81 came with a lock up convertor but still a turbo350 tranny.

NO it has a lockup 350 tranny, known as the 350C unit....

I stand corrected. Lockup clutch w/o overdrive in 81.

The 200r4 is indeed the easier swap. If you are running much more than stock power, you will have to beef up the tranny during the rebuild. If you buy one from one of the vendors it will already have the stronger hard parts in it. Your existing trans yolk and trans mount will work. You will need to get the shifter kit if you want to be able to pull it into low.

I got my 200-4R from
BTO and it has worked great since April, 2003.
