if it aint one thing, is another... electrical problems now
alright, this is a problem that just came out of left field and i have no idea where to even begin with it.
problem, dash lights will not come on, radio will not turn off, all other lights appear to be working.
i had my vette running and driving about 3-4 weeks ago and moved it up and down my driveway. i had my new radio in it then, dash lights worked then, no known problems other then the tach/speedo not illuminating, and turn signals not working (again, another problem that came out of no where)
now i park it in the garage to do some front suspension work and installing a new exhaust. i have not touched the electrical system in any way, shape or form.
as of this evening the dash lights do not work, and the radio will not turn off even after the car is off. i had to disconnect the quick disconnect and yanked the always hot wire off the terminal to get the radio to go off.
the radio is wired correctly, i used the old switched ign wire and ground wire from the original radio for this. it was also wire the same way for the last 2 years and 3 different radios.
with my luck, its probably the ign switch thats gone bad.

Possibilities
1 Ignition switch
2 If radio power was relayed from dash light wire without a diode
2a it could have back feed power
2b Bad ground
2c relay post grounded causing it to stasy open and back feed power
3- Bad ground for dash lights or power < simple
For the radio to stay on the ignition feed has to have constant power. HOWEVER YOU should still be able to shut it off from the power switch.IF YOU CAN NOT shut it down from the power switch. The radio is damaged . I would disconnect the radio and see if the lights come on.
I would like to hear what the actual problem is keep me up dated.
i wish i knew what the problem was too, but like i said, its gone now. i replaced the lamps fuse in the fuse box, and reconnected a ground to the exhaust (which i havnt had connected in 6 months, even when i had the car running 3 weeks ago and didnt have problems) and now everything running fine again. had the lights on full and the radio cranked, no problems at all.
i also managed to find my missing bag of screws. i left it right out in the open on the pass side floor.
ill pass on yanking that fuse out, it was a pain to get out.
i did not have a yellow wire in my old harness when i wired my new radio up, just the red for the switched source, and black for ground. i ran a fused line directly to the battery for the yellow always hot lead.
