Default Body Mount Question:

I am doing a complete frame off restoration on a 1968 convertible. As the '68 frame had some rust through in spots, I am using a '74 frame that I had powder coated and all new suspension and parts installed. Question is should I use the body mounts (solid) from the '68 or can/should I use the rubber/poly mounts for a 1974 Vette?

Thanks for your help.

I chose Poly mounts for my 69, the corroded alum. were falling off.
you will add about 3/16 ride height, from the alum. mounts.
a little stiffer than rubber, but way softer than Alum.
I used Energy suspension #34126G, here is a link I found with a quick search:

I don't think he will have a height change with the rubber mounts as his frame was set up for rubber mounts. You would have a height difference if he had the 68-72 frame though.

Seems a lot of people think this for some reason? I've measured early and late frames and there was no change in the location of the body mounts. With the rubber mounts the body is shifted up about 3/8".

Just a question...
The '68 frame did not have the angled braces to the rear kick-up like the '69 and later frames had; will the later frame fit the '68 body? Aren't some of the mounts in slightly different locations?

The late 68 has the braces for sure. I had always heard that the mounts were different from a rubber mount to the solid mount but I had never measured them to know, seems you hear it both ways. I would think that the differeance being only 3/8" that even if the frame mounts are the same that you would really not see a change that really shows. I put poly on my 68 but someone had put rubber on it years ago and the ploy lowered mine a small bit, very small but still measuerable.

I think you are correct, but since my '68 was a late model it does have the kick up braces in the rear. Good catch though.
