The HEI is a good dist but in stock form it needs some help. It needs to be recurved and a better coil setup on it. Setup properly an HEI will turn to 7000 rpm without a problem. That being said I run a MSD dist and a Crane HI6 ignition box with a MSD coil. I like the ignition box because of the rev limiter. I have used that feature many times and probably saved my engine. I converted my tach to an electronic one so my dist does not have the tach drive anymore. I actually have 2 MSD dist, one with and one without vacuum advance. Trialing both right now.

All that being said, if you're saying this thing is a dog, you've got problems (unless you've got a highway gear in it). I had a Nova with a 396/375. That is basically the same design as the your 435 except for the carbs and displacement. All forged, 11-1, 4 bolt mains, same cam, big port heads. I couldn't hold it down. It screamed compared to my '69 vette 427/390, and every 350 HP 396 I blew away by 8 cars.
Thank you for the post I will go electoric.

As for it being a dog I may just be expecting 2 much from it understand I ride a harley that does 3 gear wheelies I **** u not.
I mjean if I get onh it ,It goes but it runs stronger if I'm in mid 3rd and mash it then out of the whole Ijust think the 460'lbt is BS tires break loose 1st gear a 40-50 stretch then into 2nd a 20'er on the back it just isnt hooking up tight I guess it could be the tires being old. But my brother new Cadillac STS supercharged just seems faster .Let me get everything adjusted and running then I'll re-access it

Don't think you'll get the HEI in the hole on a tricarb. Also don't think you'll find a tach drive Hei for $40. Woudn't think anyone would have modified a TI distributor to put points in. But, I guess you never know. Does the distributor still have a tag on it?

WFO76, thanks for the correction on the L88 HP. Don't know what I was thinking. Good to know about the TI requirements too.

When lifters adjust operation should be done? every how long? My 575hp 406 has about 5.000 miles on the clock from brand new, never re-setted them (...nor there is any increased noice around that area either).

The engine runs like a fist in a velvet glove, only maintenance procedures up to now change oil and filter every 1.000 miles...
