What I am asking is when you replace the windshield you have to remove two metal pieces (pillars) on each side of the glass. It is behind these two pieces that has what I called packed sawdust. I'm trying to ID. Again thanks
I know the ones you're talking about. They are just some form of foam material with an adhesive backing.
I got mine from Gruhala. He got them from Ecklers. I think they were $6 for both sides.
According to my AIM, it is just a foam filler. I went to Autozone and bought
some "strip foam". It was black too and came in a little bag. The AIM says it should be 914 mm and I found some that was close and it worked well. It was adhesive backed on one side to facilitate the alignment/installation..
If you are talking about between the pillars and windshield frame, I went to Home Depot and bought "dum dum" It is the stuff that electricians use on outside connections to your electric box. Plyable and you roll it in your hands for a small rope like silly putty.
There were thin rubber strip between each of those 2 pieces of metal on mine. The rubber was perished and badly split so I cut a strip of rubber out of an old bike inner tube & fitted it using a thin film of black RTV on each side. The RTV allowed enough time to adjust the weatherstrip position before it set.
