help, My wife is in Maine and im in Ohio and she said that the car pulls hard to the left when brakes are applied at asl speeds. Sears changed front calipers and replaced the fluid and bleed all 4 brakes. she picked the car up and there was no change. I told sears to check the rubber brake hose and they said it looked fine and cant be collappsed as it bleed good. the pedle is hard but pulls. If I make them install a gage on the soft line then I will see if there is a restriction correct. I need to get this fixed in the next 2 days.. please any help would be great.
I just bought this car a month ago. before that it was drivine 900 miles in 5 years as it only went tocar shows.
sorry for the double thread, this site was real slow last night and i didnt tink it posted, she is in Presqui Isle, the tire are new with 400 miles on them and yes the tire pressure is good, there was no brake fluid leaking. I agree with the rotors, they wanted to replace app for rotors and calipers and said NO Freaking way. Im still leaning towards rubber hoses. would my pedal still be hard if it was the hose?
The only reason a rotor would cause a problem is if it had significant scarring and even then the pad would have to be worn down and dragging that side.
I would still put money on it being the flex hoses. They are cheap and easy to change and that would be better to invest in first.
I would also check for contamination of the pads. If Sears bleed the brakes and dripped brake fluid on the pads that will cause them to grab very hard and may cause hot spots on the rotor. Sometime you get lucky and it burns off. Ask me how I know
You may not be able to visually see the bad rubber hoses. Sometimes they go bad from the inside and they don't collapse they just swell on the inside and restrict the flow.
My 80 Vette had a minor pull to the left during braking. The pedal was firm. I finally noticed my right rear caliper had a small leak. It wasn't dripping, and the only way I found it was when I pulled the caliper off during other suspension work. I replaced both rear calipers and problem went away. I kept the same rotors and pads. However, I had previously replaced my flex hoses so I knew those weren't the problem. Don't know if that helps?
The new caliper could be leaking. I would get them to change the hoses anyway. The hoses are only 10 dollars so its a good idea. My car did this when I got it, and I noticed one caliper leaked and the other side stuck. best of luck to you
