Default Lt1 for my 80

Hi all
I have the opportunityto purchase a 400HP Lt1 engine with 8000 miles on it and I have heard it running and there isno smoke from the exhaust at all. and the price is 2400 dollars turn key. is this a good deal??? plus a set of Hooker headers and side pipes from a 70 vette in very good shape for 200 dollars.

LT1 is a great engine with one shortcoming in a vette.....

that is due to the engine being so low to the ground the optispark becomes very problem prone.....

it seems to be much better in larger cars and trucks...not so lo to gather moisture....

good luck holding one in there in a vette.....

now having said that, I really don't know how to change it over to a HEI type dizzy on a LT1 engine....but I know the intake can be modded to HEI for a L98 engine as I have one on my car now....with HEI in the rear...runs fine....

now how all that happening affects the front cam/dizzy/balancer/covers/water pump, I don't know....

but the engine itself is fine....

easy pull 400 hp....

Does that get you the entire engine/trans/computer combo, or just the engine. Personally, I would want the entire package for a killer combo, rather than just the engine.

The price is for the engine only and it is out of a 67 vette

Moving to a computer controlled fuel injected engine requires some research. You especially want to research the availability of a reprogramable computer your modified engine {100hp over stock} and the complete electrical harness and a new fuel system. The optispark was not a significant problem, especially on the'94- 96 models. The 92-93 had some complaints due to moisture, but I never had ignition problems on my 93. I put over 160K miles on the LT1 in my C4 vette. It was a stout engine..
