Default engine id confirmation

Hi Guys,

Trying to determine what engine I have in my 72...it is not original because the VIN serial number from the windshield pillar doesn't match the partial vin on the block.

on the block driver side rear is 3956618...
on the block passenger side front is 192045875 K01 08FC ( the leading 1 may only be nick, but 1 indicates chev, I think)

my best guess after reading the different posts and sites is it is a 327 with 2 bolt mains that was originally in an Impala.

from different sites…

3956618 302 1969 4 bolt main Z-28 Camaro
3956618 327 1968-1969 2 bolt main
3956618 350 1969 2 or 4 bolt main

1 = chevorlet
9 = camaro ?
2 = St. Theres
K = St. Catherines, Ontario (engine, NOT vehicle)
01 = January
08 = 8th Day

Small Block Chevy Suffix Code: FC

FC 1955 265 Powerglide, a/c - - car
FC 1957 283 Powerglide - 4 bbl car
FC 1969 327 tur hydro trans. 235 HP 2 bbl B & F bodies

or

FC 69 327 Impala 235 Base TH 350 2-Brl Hyd Cam

Can anybody confirm what I came up with? Was I close? I am most interested in finding out the original CIs and number of main bolts hopefuly without taking the engine apart.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cars prior to the early 60s did not have the VIN stamped on the block so you can rule out the 1950s choices.

My guess is the 69 235hp 2 bbl. The K does confirm that the engine was built at the St. Catherines plant.

Sass,
I'm sorry that so far only Mike replied. His guess could very well be right.
I read your post too. I have plenty of information to reference BUT it's
all abut ORIGINAL cars, I had no place to look. So I couldn't help out.
This will move it to the top again and maybe someone else can concur with Mike.
Regards,
Alan

You have it pretty close ...

3956618 was a 302/327/350ci made between January and April 1969. This particular engine build date is January 8, 1969 at McKinnon Industries Plant (across the river from Tonawanda). I suspect if you look at the casting date (passenger side, rear, behind distributor), you'll find an early January date (maybe A39 or A69 ... ??).

In this case, the FC code is the Impala 235hp with auto tranny. This confirms it as a 327ci, with 2 bolt mains.

192045875 indicates a 1969 car built in Canada, probably St Therese, which made passenger cars (Impala) in 1969. Serial number of the car is 45,875.

Thanks all, for helping!

Next, I'll try to determine the what 4 speed it is. I don't think it is original either, but that will be another post.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

A large journal 327. That is a good one to work into a very high RPM buzz bomb!
