Default Vinyl dye

Anyone have experience with "plasti-kote" vinyl spray? I'm installing new carpeting in my 71 and am thinking of using this on my center console and park brake cover. It's in good shape but could use some freshening-up. Wondering how it looks and holds up before I go ahead.

i did my whole interior with SEM vinyl paint. everything has held up great except for the seats. it's been about four years and the bottom driver's seat is mostly all worn off. luckily for me the seats where already red , just a different shade so you can hardly tell.

I think Chris's experience is pretty typical. People seem to have better luck with the 'hard' interior parts than the 'soft' parts like seats.
It sounds like you're not changing color just trying for a 'new' appearance. The dye should do that well.
Getting the parts you want to dye very, very, clean is critical in order to have the dye really adhere to the surface. Use as little dye as you can to get the look you want.
Results,
Alan

As long as you are certain that the Plasti-kote "vinyl dye" is really vinyl dye. Several posters on this Forum have purchased spray cans labeled "vinyl dye", but it appears they have purchased spray PAINT. I would not take the chance on getting a questionable product. Buy your vinyl dye at a car paint supply store [where the body shops buy their paint]. They can mix the dye to match your trim code color or mix it to match a part. If you don't have spray equipment, purchase a Pre-val gas cannister/bottle spray kit to apply it...they work exceptionally well with vinyl dye. Clean, clean, clean all of the parts to be colored...especially if you have used Armor-all or other petroleum-based 'protectant'. That stuff will keep anything from sticking to your parts if you don't get it ALL off. A pint of vinyl dye will do your entire interior.

I purchased the vinyl dye from Mid America, along with a can of plastic prep specifed for this purpose. I am not doing seats, they are only a few years old.
