Default Jasper Engines

Has anybody bought an engine from Jasper Engines? I'm thinking on their Class II 383 (385hp, 440ft. lbs.).

Some of the specs are as follows;

Approximately 9.4:1 comp.
SS valves - 2.02 intake, 1.60 exhaust
Four bolt main
Hydraulic camshaft WG-1173
.050 duration: 298* intake, 234* exhaust
Advertised duration: 298* intake, 304* exhaust
Cam Lift: .290 intake, .300 exhaust
Valve lift: .465 intake, .488 exhaust
Lobe center: 107* intake, 117* exhaust
Dart S/S heads

Run live

3 year warranty

$3751 out the door but does not include intake, carb, etc...

I was also looking at the Engine Factory 383 which is around $6K, but is turnkey with intake manifold/carb etc. and dyno tested, but only carries a 1 year warranty...

Jasper is a good product, as a general purpose engine replacement. If you are trying to make horsepower, that's not the route many would take. But if you just want to exchange engines and go, it's not a bad option. Like you said, you would still have to change some of the parts from your engine over to it.

You could buy new internals for your engine block. You will have to take your block to a machine shop to have your block prepped. This option MAY be cheaper than buying a crate engine, or you buy the crate and improve on that.

The guys next door to me used to sell Jasper engines. No more
as they have been stuck with warranty problems Jasper never
paid them for.

They have been around for years. I would say they are OK for a basic "exchange" rebuilt engine for your daily driver but making performance engines is not their claim to fame.

Another option might be a GM 383 crate motor for around the same price. GM part # 12497317. A little less HP but with Vortec heads and intake.

Thanks for the input everybody! I'm not sure if it would just be better to have my L-82 built up or not. I kinda like the 383 however...
