Default charcoal canister

on another of my cars i want to get rid of the unsightly charcoal canister. no pollution laws over here so i can. can i just block of the line that i presume is coming from the gas tank . all it has is a vacum line from carb to canister and then another line from the canister to the tank. i did it to my vet 5 years ago and it didnt seem to do any change. this is on a 71 camaro.

It might not cause any significant problems to remove it; but what harm is it doing? You say "unsightly"...but you have to look mighty hard to even find it! The cannister...if it is working properly...can prevent fuel fumes from leaving the vehicle and building up in the garage, etc. It also is "friendly" to the environment and offers no "downside" to the engine performance, etc. Dump it if you must, but it's not doing any harm now, is it??

thanks 7t1 for your reply . i agree with you that it has a purpose and all that but it is only for the fact i like a really empty looking engine bay with no baggage so its the only reason im taking it out.

Yank it out and make sure vacuum is capped. You're done.

I took mine out to make room for an oil accumulator (a project that is still on going). I installed a vented gas cap to make sure the fuel tank didn't build up pressure and capped off the engines vacuum line, and everything is working fine.

I wouldn't mind putting it back in if I can find a new home for it somewhere out of sight.

The key thing to remember is to install a vented gas cap in it's place.
