MY 1976 corvette factory alarm wasn't working. I wanted to get it working so I started to trace the wires. I did not have to go far.The previous owner disconnected the wires from the key in the fender. When you touch the wires together the horn starts to beep with the doors shut and the hood pin disconnected. The dome lights are off and the door ajar light is off so none of the door pins are grounding, but the horn still beeps. I even disconnected the alarm relay in the back compartment and the alarm horn still beeps.
I know a 74 with the switch in the fender had a switch like the one on the headlights so if someone tampered with the back side of the key switch and broke it off the alarm would sound. Your problem is with that plastic switch behind the key lock. If it has been removed or it is broken or loose the alarm will sound all the time even if all the other switches are working as they should.
Hello all. I have a 74' with the opposite problem. The alarm will not sound at all. In the jack compartment by the alarm flasher and relay I find a orange wire, a black wire both with connectors that will go together except the orange is 12 volts + and the black is ground. Is something missing??
The alarm system works like many other systems in the Corvette. The switches complete the circuit when the doors or the hood are opened. Since yours goes constantly, look for the system to be looped all the way through to allow the key switch to be bypassed.
On my car, none of the switches had wires on them, all the wires were wired together. I took out the hood switch and there were 6 inches of wire on it. A PO had pulled the white wires back to the driver's side and connected them together.
Same for the pink wires at the key switch.
Check everything and you will find it. It's a pretty simple system.
