Default Another TH350 Question

You guys that are running TH350s what rear end gearing are you running? I have 3.70. Not looking to race my 68 (327 maybe 300+ HP) but was woundering what you think of your car at highway speeds.

im running 355 gears with a Th350 in an 81 with 3000 stall. i wouldnt want anything more than that. on the highway at cruise speed im sitting at about 3000rpm but thats ok cause it doesnt see the open roads often.

I have the same as gingerbreadman in my '79, but I want overdrive for the highway.

OEM 3:08 gears in mine, but the reworked Turbo 350 has a 2500+ stall convertor in front of it.

She ain't much for gas mileage but I'll tell ya it downright SCOOTs just the way I like it.

You really don't need that 'steep' of a gear for an automatic tranny. The converter provides some torque multiplication at lower rpm's, so you don't need that much gear. Without a lockup converter, you probably don't want anything lower than 3.36 or maybe 3.23...somewhere in that range for decent performance off the line and also not 'wound up tighter than a two-dollar clock' at highway speeds. I have the stock 3.08 with my THM400 and would still love to have the overdrive feature.

its not a matter of 'need'......its a matter of 'want'.
