Yes

Static time the car. Another new term. I'll Wikipedia that. What I did was put marks on the distributor when I pulled it from the old motor so that when I switched it over it would be in the general area of where it needed to be so that I could adjust it with the timing advance light I just got.
Static timing just means setting the timing without the engine running. The way I do it is to turn the crank so the timing mark on the ballancer lines up on about 10* or so. Then set the distruibutor so that the rotor is pointed exactly at the #1 plug wire contact on the cap. Fine adjust with the timing light once you have it all together.

You can get it just about perfect in a similar way. Same initial technique in terms of picking/aligning on the timing mark. Then pull the #1 plug wire boot off of the plug and insert a spare plug in the boot. Ground the spark plug, have ignition on with distributor loose and slowly rotate the distributor until you get a spark on the plug. Then button it up and fine tune later.

This link is really helpful. I had no idea how bad I was about to mess up. Thanks so much for finding this post for me.

I like this so much I've been working on doing my next video on it. However, when I get to the point where I'm supposed to turn the motor & put the mark on 10, there is no 10. I have a line for 34/33 & blank till the next mark at 0.

Am I missing something here or am I just supposed to guess where 10 is. This is a circle track motor & the little differences have really been messing me up.
