Default Overcharging - Battery is swollen

Having issues with the car not starting, battery issues. I noticed that the battery is swollen. I am thinking the alternator/voltage reg is bad.

Good call. You need a new battery anyway, so go ahead and get that. Take the alternator off and have it tested before just changing it.

Mine did the same thing. The battery was only 18 months old. Alternator tested fine, replaced the battery and it's been going for 4 years now. Sear's guy was telling me I need to start the car once a month, told him that's why I get a battery with a warranty.

Buy a battery tender, especially if you let it sit several months. It will keep the battery at full, similiar to an alternator recharging it.

Hi 98,
ylose's suggestion about a battery tender is a good one. There has been a thread in the last few days about people's experiences with 'tenders'. It's worth checking out!
Regards,
Alan

What's the alternative to a battery tender if you have nowhere to plug it into? (no outlets available)

Remove the battery and store it somewhere where you can plug in a tender.

Have you tested anything yet? The resting battery should be at 12.3 volts +/- and the charging voltage should be at 14.X+ volts. Two mintues to test it before you go out and buy a battery. You want to make certain that your charging system is good before you start replacing things.

Default Solar?

I have seen lots of small solar panels that are supposed to keep a battery fresh, but I have no actual experience.

Battery is swollen. Too risky to keep it so no point in testing it. OP does need to test the charging circuit.
