Dear Friend of Corvette Forum.
Its amazing that i found such forum.
i have a 1972 corvette, tt,big block 454. auto with a/c.
i bought the car with Edelcbrock QUADRAJET and it was marked on it the number 8904 1901 0867 W.
the problem is that i cant save the motor on 600 rpm.
who is familier with this karburator? do you know if this one is ok with big block?
who know what is the CFM of this carburator? i know the original shoud be Rochester 750 CFM.
who have experience with it?
ill be glad to hear your comments..
The Edelbrock is basically identical to the Rodchester, so it should fit/run fine.
Check the easy things first.
Throtle cable have slack?
Idle speed screw adjusted correctly?
Choke releases when warm?
Timing correct?
Vacume leaks?
Etc.
Welcome to the forum. What does GTC stand for?
I have the same Edelbrock 1901 carb on my engine ('71 SB, auto). That unit is what Edelbrock used for Corvette engines when they began making the Quadrajets (after buying equipment from GM). The carb is a 750 cfm [capability]. On my engine, it will never open fully because it doesn't demand that much air; it should be fine for your car and is probably an equivalent carb to what came on your engine originally. It may have different rods and jets than what came with your [new] carb, but it should work fine. If it is not running correctly, I would first verify that you do not have a vacuum leak in the system. This is best achieved by removing all vacuum feed lines from the carb and manifold and plugging off the open fittings...except for the vacuum advance on the distributor. If your engine idles much better when that is done, you probably have a vacuum leak somewhere in the headlight/wiper door/vent system vacuum lines. Anyway, set your idle with all of that stuff removed, then use a vacuum gauge to find the leakage and fix that. If you have no vacuum leak, the idle problem is likely due to timing, ignition/points/condenser/coil, or carb adjustments. Good luck. 7T1vette
