Default Block Identification

Hi Guys.
Could someone Identify my block. It's a four bolt that I am getting machined for a 383 build. I would just like to know a few things about it.

Cast Numbers located on the back:: 3970010 86
HECHO EN MEXICO

Serial Number stamped in the front:: MC14800

What's it from?
General year produced??
2 piece or 1 piece rear main seal??

Thanks in advance
Clyde

Hi

3970010 has been used in Corvettes as from 1970 till 1980 for the 350 CI
block in 2 and 4 bolt applications.
So should be a 2 piece rear seal.

The MC S/N is not from a Vette. Sorry, don't know anymore.

Check here http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm for more info.

Casting CI year mains apllication

3970010....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
3970010....327.....69....2...Trucks and industrial
3970010....350...69-80...2 or 4

This is a 350 cu in Goodwrench or Targetmaster GM replacement engine.
No Corvette blocks of that era were cast in Mexico.
Look on the back bellhousing flange for a date code, a letter and then 3 or 4 numbers.
The 010 block will be a 2-piece rear main seal, 1-piece started in 86.
Tell your machinist to grind off the "Hecho in Mexico" and nobody will know what it was.
