Default Question

I put a Hot Rod air AC on my 72. The engine is a ZZ4 turn key crate motor with GM serpentine accy system. When I turn on the AC and the compressor engages the engine dies. Souldn't there be something that increases the idel so the ac drag won't kill the engine? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Default AC solenoid

Most cars with AC that I'm familiar with also have an AC solenoid on the carburetor. Though I've never looked into it, I assumed it was to keep the engine from bogging down due to the additional load introduced by the compressor. Did your kit come with one of those? Also, does the mixture and Idle settings change? I don;t know...I'm just suggesting things to check. Hope this helps.

If your kit didn't come with the a/c idle compensator solenoid, check with the carburetor maker...they usually have one available. It's usually proprietary to them, which means not cheap.
