Default Why doesn't anything work right?

I just bought a corvette specific waterpump ( from one of the major vendors )and the pully rubs the housing. It's a brand new Made in America ( with parts from china) AC DELCO waterpump. I already painted it and installed it but now I have to shim the pully so it does not rub. I hope the belt still lines up.

It sure would be nice to just buy new things and have them work!.

I had this happen with an Edelbrock water pump. I just trimmed some material from the water pump with a grinder. Eight years later, no problems.

It may have an American box with a Delco label, but that doesn't [necessarily] mean that it was made in America. Most Delco products are produced off-shore and just packaged here...or packaged there in Delco boxes. One never knows anymore.... The problem could be that the holes were just drilled off location a bit. See if you can loosen all the bolts and hold the pump UP as far as it will go before you tighten the bolts back down. There may be enough slop in the bolt holes to get the clearance you need.

.

Raybestos is considered by most as a premium company that cost a little more than the so call 'Chinees' stuff. Well we got some brake parts in today. Guess where its made? In bold letters unmistakenly was printed, "made in China"...right on the box. So, go figure, even the brand names are made overseas.. What next!....

Maybe Corvettes?..

just fyi, i ran into the same problem with a w/p i purchased from oreilly, pulleys didnt line up, and was slightly rubbing the pump body, the hub thats on the pump shaft that the pulley bolts to, is pressed on, it can be moved, i used a puller to move the hub slightly outward away from the body until everything lined up, no more rubbing either. good luck

I ended up making a shim out of a large washer. It works ok , but my point was that it seems like every time you try to fix something you end up having problems with the parts.( yes the AC DELCO box said made in america with parts from china! )

Just make sure that your pulley is mounted flush with your spacer installed, any wobble will use up the pumps bearing pretty quick.

Having played with cars for over 40 years, I've learned that having aftermarket parts that don't fit (even OEM ones), isn't anything new.

That being said, very little that comes from GM today is US made. Many parts had been coming from Mexico, now GM is switching over to Korea. I recently ordered six 68-73 license lenses from my Chevy dealer, 2 were US made and 4 Korean made. The markings on the Korean ones are different than the original ones. If it comes from GM and is US made, it's probably old inventory. It appears as they use up the US made product, they're either shipping the production of parts overseas, or discontinuing it altogether. I'm also finding that many of the GM parts have experienced price increases of 30 to 300 % the last 2 to 4 years!
