I ruined a radio with hardware store fittings and a copper line. Got a complete kit from ZIP and have had no problems in the last 8 years. From my experience only the factory fitting works on the gauge end.

I believe you are right about this. Since the gauge is designed for a compression fitting, I ended up rigging a small length of copper tubing and a ferrule inside the fittings I found to make sure it would work.
This Auto Meter kit from Summit contains the correct fittings.
The plastic tube should have a small brass tube inside to support it when the ferrul is tightened. This gets overlooked a lot of times, without it plastic tube collapses and leaks.

Good point Mine could be missing, thanks for the tip....
Thank you......... to all that posted...... if I knew about this info before I would have changed the line out when I had the motor out.

Never heard of this before. Can anyone confirm this???

My local hardware store has them, and I wouldn't be surprised if O'Reilly's (and other auto parts stores) also have them in the brass cabinet. I never had anyone ask for them while I worked for O'Reilly's, but they're there in ours. I saw them a couple weeks ago in the Everco brass section (behind the counter).
