after a short drive, i parked the car for about 15 minutes. wouldn't fire -up and stong smell of gas. after about 15 minutes more, it started. got it home and the same thing happened. worst part was that i had my mother-in-law with me!
what do you guys think- float too high or stuck or???
350 with mech fuel pump and q jet. more or less stock.
Could be float or well plugs leaking in bottom of carb. common on qjet .Look down carb after you turn it off. If gas is dripping and you can see it thats the float. If you just see vapor it is the well plugs. Need to remove carb and seal then with jbweld
You may be getting vapor lock. Considering you live in Florida, and the heat there. When was the last time you put a kit in that QJ? I did mine this past weekend and it runs great.
LMAO. Those carbs do have a tendancy to leak from the plugs underneath, i used JB weld to seal mine up.A saturated float or cracked float full of fuel would give you constant flodding. A bad needle and seat may be allowing excess fuel to get by? You wont know till it comes apart.
I see by your profile, you have a '70 350. I have 2 L46 350/350 hp cars. I'm really just starting to understand all the workings of these carbs. If you have an original # carb, maybe my experience might help.
I had the fortune to watch Lars rebuild my carb this year. I have always had the same issue as you, called "hot start" problem. The best way I found to restart after a short period of time, was to not touch the accelerator. Pumping the pedal would just compound the issue. Lars asked if I had this problem, and I believe set up the choke pull off spring to compensate for the issue. I have had absolutely no issues since the rebuild. I would think if you can find no issue with your float, this may be your problem.......
