At this point I really think you are looking at a unclear block date code casting. It is much more likely that this code would be unclear rather then a stamping.

Re: Correct numbers on motor? (63Banshee)
One thing still doesn't jive with the motor and VIN combo. 107776 and 107778 were definitely built in January and the stamp clearly denotes a February assembly date. This is strange... I'm not ready to draw a conclusion.
Yes - that data is incorrect. It comes from the original GM book in '71. Oh what a misprint can do!
CJK is the code for later 270/350s. Early in the year CGT was apparently used.
Trick question - how many LT1s were produced with an automatic tranny?

I thought it was zero. If so I wouldn't be happy if I were LT1 Tom.
No problem 63Banshee, the previous owner told me that he made the engine an LT-1 clone, and that it was the original motor from the car, (WRONG) I did hope that it was at least the right engine, but sounds like it is a 76 motor. Still don't no about the casting number, 3970010? Oh well in the next two weeks the 467 cube merlin head monster is going in, long live the big block!!!
LOL
Ya - if had the only one that would be cool!
Unfortunately, all the low horse auto ones coming to the directory that have provided a code are CJK codes.
A very good question
I thought I had read that the VIN is stamped on the frame somewhere on the drivers side rear (above the half shaft?). Maybe on the top side of the frame? I can't remember for sure and I can't find the reference  . I've never looked for mine before. Hopefully, somone can confirm or refute this info.
On our cars (1968-82) the frame is stamped with the VIN derivative in two places, both on the top left (driver) side of the frame. The first is located on top of the frame rail that runs underneath the door opening. Due to its location, it can't be seen with the body in place. The second location is on top of the frame kick up, near the #4 (rearmost) body mount. Depending upon the location and the amount of rust and dirt on the frame, this number can often be seen (an inspection mirror and flashlight certainly help in locating it). As a general rule, both stamps are relatively light and are easily destroyed if the frame has any significant rust.
This is a photo of the VIN derivative on my '70 coupe. The frame protrusion at the lower right of the photo is the #4 body mount.
Thanks to all for the information about my engine, looks like it must be a 76 motor, someone was not to smart when they re-stamped the front number, allmost got it right! Anybody want a good used 76 engine?
