Default Distributor slop

Hi guys-
I'm getting ready to install the HEI dist. into my newly rebuilt 383 and noticed the dist shaft has .062" end play. Seems like this would screw up any attempts at setting timing. Is this OK or do I need to shim and if I do, to what clearance ? Or, do I toss it and find a better one. My original has over 100,000 miles on it.
TIA
Larry

buy a pack of distributor shims and set it at .015" or so. I think some people set them as tight as .007". Not a big deal.

Stingr69 is right.
This is extremely easy to do. I did mine at .010 for my 68.
Quick job and no special tools required.

Mr. Gasket or Moroso. any parts store should be able to get them or you can mail order from just about any of the Hot Rod parts stores.
