Default Battery Question

After starting your engine and you check the battery with a meter....what should be the volt reading? Anything over 12 is good? 13v? 14v?

I just want to make sure my alternator is recharging the battery....

About 13.5-14.5.
The ammeter should show charging.

That is, unless the battery is fully charged...then it will show about 12.5-13.0 volts.

With the engine running, the minimum voltage should be about 1 volt over the battery voltage. Less than the 13.5v will indicate a problem.
