Default Fuel gage

After replacing my fuel sending unit, the gage level works fine but, when it gets down to 3/4 full, the needle wobbles back & forth. Was there any baffles in the original tank? Or what may be the problem. I bought this 82 only a year ago with 61,000 mi.

Jim,

The tank did not have any baffle in it. I've seen cars do this before and I don't know what will cause it. Maybe someone here has more to say about this so here is a bump.

Sounds like a 'worn' area on the variable resistor in the sender. It's just a little 'jumpy' at a certain spot. My suspicion is that the tank is frequently 3/4 full and it has more wear in that spot.

Default fuel gage

I replaced the whole sending unit with a new one. As soon as it gets about 3/4 full until almost empty, it wobbles left & right with small bumps or any movement from the road etc.
