Default 69 gauge cluster removal.

In order to gain access to the 3/8 inch nuts on the bottom of the bezel the center plate comes off, not the whole center console, Correct?

Has someone done this recently? thanks

You got it. Take your time and watch the switches on the A/C controls if it's so equipped. Those nuts are a bit of a chore to get at, and I was thinking I'd see if I could get to them with a 1/4" drive set with a wobble socket and a long extension for the side with the two little panels removed. Pretty awkward spot!

Not sure what you mean by center plate. If your talking about the 2 nuts under the radio I use a 6" 1/4" drive extension with a driver and a 3/8" deep and a universal wrapped with tape and filled with silicone to make it stiffer.I slide it under the side of the tunnel. Here is a pic of the tool and about the angle and place I slide it under.

If you use my way disconnect the battery just in case you would get into something hot.

Yes, the 2 nuts are at the bottom of the gauge cluster panel. They connect it to the lower console via the "U" shaped brace at the front of the lower unit. If the gauge cluster panel encounters any resistance at removal, don't force it, or it will break. Find the point of resistance and relieve it. The 'pot metal' cluster is relatively strong, but very brittle. Also remember to disconnect the oil gauge line behind the gauge as soon as you can get access to it.
