Got four new GT2's put on last week. I took the beauty rims and center off so the tire place wouldnt damage them. Brought the car back to put the outer rings back on but the tire shop put weights exactly in the spot the clamps of the ring goes. On two tires.
You cant adjust the rings since there is a hole for the valve to stick out. So I thought I would just slide the weights along the ridge just enough to make room for the ring clamp knowing it might screw up the balance. Well I think I'm detecting some out of balance at around 50 mph but I'm not positive.
Would moving them a couple inches make a difference and what other options do I have to solve this? THX
You could have them static balanced (weights stick on to the back of the rim) or you could have them break down the tires and just move them (the tires) on the rims an inch or 2. Good Luck!
You could also get some tape weights of equivalent amounts (the clamp-on weights have their respective weight embossed onto them) and tape them to the inside of the wheels as close to the wheel center as you can get them at the same spot on the wheel rims.
Sounds like you found a decent shop that cares about customers and making things right, especially at no charge.
I'd bring the guy a six pack in case you need tire work done again in the future.
Never hurts to have a connection,,,

Things worked out ok for you in the end. THat is a good thing to know the next time I take my vette to the shop for a front/rear alignment and wheel balancing.

I believe this is called "Static Balancing". I could be wrong but, that's the way it was explained to me.
If you have the 'original'-style of beauty ring, you should have asked them to put "tape-weights" inside the outer edge of the rim, if the wheel needed weight on the outer face. Just moving weights around and/or putting all weights on the inside are not good alternatives. Glad the shop will take care of you.
