Can someone tell me what the speedometer cable type is on a 1978 Corvette. I was told that there are two types: a screw in and a snap in. This is where it attaches at the speedometer.

The cable end that attaches to the transmission is thread on, female. The speedometer end is clip on. It slides into the back of the speedometer and a clip grabs onto a lip.
Now, cruise control was offered so there are two different types of cables. There are one piece cables for non cruise cars and there are two piece cables, where a cruise control transducer is involves and sits inline between the transmission and speedometer.
All GM cars produced before 1969 used a screw on cable. All cars produced after 1968 used the clip on cable. Good luck getting that darn clip loose from the cable. When you try to release the clip you want to push the cable toward the back of the car and then attempt to push the clip in the same direction for release.
You'll wear out a finger or two, but it will release.
