Default Trailing Arm Assemblies-Seeking

Looking for suggestions for reputable sources to either have my trailing arm assemblies rebuilt or swap for rebuilt ones.
Going on an 81 vette

I looked at Duntov, but looking to see if there are any others that you guys have used or can suggest.

Thanks

I've gone the swap route. Just received from VanSteel . . . they look brand new. Can't wait to get the old ones off and new ones on. Once I get the old ones off, I put in the boxes the new one cames in and ship back.

They have all new bearings/races, e-brake pads, bushings, rotor, rotor guard . . . everything . . . ready to bolt on. I got during their Black Friday sale and paid under $300 each. I thought it was a pretty good deal once I started adding up everything and my time to figure out how to properly replace/setup.

Go with the offset ones from Van Steel, they are bullet proof. Unless you are just wanting stock TAs, I'd go the upgrade route from Van. I got mine fully assembled w/new disks. Just bolted them on & its ready for alignment. No fuss, no muss.

Corvette Forum members get %10 off in December with us at Duntov. I can ship them tomorrow if you get your order in before 5pm today.

Default Van Steel

Maybe their's isn't a household name but they have a great reputation. Van Steel has a long history with scores of satisfied customers. You won't go wrong w/ VS for quality steering-suspension!

On the other hand (& No offense to DE3):
If I could afford to buy/rent a name to run a business "in name only" ... say like Dale Earnhart's or ... "similar" ... I could market millions$ of anything ... regardless if my service&product was up to snuff/overpriced.

I was very happy with the work Van Steel did on my trailing arms. But, the offer from Duntov sounds worth checking into, also.
Regards,
Alan

$.02 from another satisfied Van Steel customer... Buy your arms set-up. Installing and shimming your wheel bearings is not for the faint-of heart. This is best left to the professionals.

I purchased the off-set T/As from VS. Excellent service and bolt right in. They look so nice on my 80.

Here are a couple of pics of the rebuilt TAs that I bought from Van Steel. The cores I sent back looked like they came off the Titanic but I still received almost all of the core credit (IIRC one spindle was worn out of spec). I also bought a front end rebuild kit from Van Steel. Good folks to deal with. Had a few email exchanges with Edward at Duntov also and he seems like a good person.

Thanks for all the great advice. I just got off the phone with danny from vanSteel and bought the trailing arm setups for my 81. great folks to deal with. Also had great advice from Duntov, but van Steel gave me a great deal and let me mix and match my components.

I'll post pictures of the before, the FUN i had removing the old and the new once they are installed.

Thanks

So how does the rebuild service work?

Do you actually get yours back or do they send you a new set and credit your account with the cores once rcvd and inspected?

I beleive they do either way. You can send yours in and have rebuilt or you can do an exchange with a core charge/refund. The advantage of the exchange is you can receive the T/A, replace your old ones and use the shipping boxes to send old ones back. Less downtime for the car, unless you are like me and are doing a hundred other little things "while I'm at it". Give them a call . . . they seem like they can do it anyway that works for you.

Thats correct. We can rebuild yours or do exchange units. Turn around time on a rebuild is approx 1 week b/c we powder coat your arms.

Is there really any advantage to having your own Traililng arms rebuilt? Are there differences from one year to another?

Not unless your doing an NCRS car. Than you would need at the minimum your supports back and you would have to get the backing plates that have the delco stamp on them. Only other benefit is that your not paying for a core charge up front.

There are some other differences but nothing that would cause any issues. The bearing support legs can be different. The 63-64 car had no webbing inbetween the 2 legs and the bottom of the support where the strut rod connects to has a smaller OD on the casting. After that the adding the webbing and the castings got larger.
