In my pursuit for dependability and performance I have been researching a carb.
I've spoken with holley and bg and they've gladly recomended their applicable carb.
There are obviously some die-hard q-jet fans on here and for a good reason I'm assuming.
So here's my question.
Where do I buy a reliable tweeked q-jet for a scat internal 383 with vortecs and a 350/350 blue racer cam?
I can core mine but I have no Idea where to get one from a reputable source.
Jegs sells "jet performance" remaned' q-jets, but I'm shooting in the dark with that as no one has posted expreience on them...
where does one find a tuned q-jet w electric choke?
thanks

Cliff's a standup guy with a wealth of knowledge about Q-Jets, I have his book and reworked mine to his recommendations. He'll set one up for you but I understand the lead time is pretty long to get it back, some others might be able to verify that. You could buy his book and do it yourself, I'm sure he would talk you through any problems and recommend a recipe for your application. He can also supply a kit of parts for the mod/rebuild.
It just seems that a q-jet is the same price as a bg or holley...
is there really an advantage?
YES! Any carb can be tuned for best economy. Any carb with sufficient flow (cfm) can get the engine to reach its performance potential. Only a Quadrajet can do both at the same time. The others metering systems are just too crude to allow that level of tune.
God bless, Sensei
P.S. You might contact Lars about a rebuild (I'm not sure if he is doing them at this time or not).
Tim...I purchased one of Jet Performance level 2 Q-Jets from Summit. It has worked extremely well for me on my 79 L-82. Idle adjusted easily and has good off idle acceleration. I talked to Jet Performance before I purchased the level 2.
