Default Motor mounts

Won't you all be glad when I get my new motor installed and no longer have to pester you with so many inane questions?

I'm still in a haze about the responses to the pushrod and dizzy gear threads, but while I continue to digest that:

Motor mounts-

Reuse seems false economy. However I see a dazzling array of choices. I am thinking about just going the basically stock route here, I cant fathom some expensive gold-plated mutli-poly whiz bang thing making much a of a difference. I see offered also, solid ones, but it seems they would transfer a lot of vibration/harmonics to the frame.

I just need the motor to stay in place.

Your thoughts?

Oh, I guess it would be helpful to mention that this will be a supercharged 383 going into a 1976 coupe, so yea, there will be a little HP, hopefully

Sorry I seem to be in your threads and emails...

I have solid mounts in my Vette currently and Curt and I installed them under his Vortec 355.

The solid mounts have a great feature, that they structurally assist the frame from flexing. They also don't wear out, and they are not very expensive for the pair.

I only notice a vibration in my horn button because the 3 rivets that hold them together is a bit loose. Other than that, nothing.

Not to mention the throttle response is better with solid mounts.

May I also suggest a spreader bar.

You've been a big help so far, Matt.

Sounds worth it.

Can you suggest sources to buy?

I bought my set and Curt bought his set from Summit, but some of the vendors might also have them.

Ive got the polys, they are a good middle road between rubber and solid, no excess vibrations via my polys

Thanks.

Yea I am sold on the benifits of solid. Even though I will have heat and air conditioning now for the first time since Ive owned it, the point of this car is mostly to annoy my local police department.

What about the spreader bar? Source? Or will I have to have it done locally? If so, I'll need more detail from someone. I live in a sleepy little beach town that is punctuated by periods of college girls dancing in the streets in bikinis during spring break.

Dude, we're world famous for that stuff. Come down any Saturday in season, bikini contests and wet t-shirt contests all day. Mega-clubs situated right on the beaches. The term "Party with thousands" is not an exaggeration.

The "Girls Gone Wild" producers and the county have running lawsuit battles against each other.

Motor mounts, did someone say motor mounts, well let me tell you a story about motor......

Seriously though I have tried them all. The solids were nice and act as a frame connector making the front end stiffer. THey also do not transfer as much vibration as you would think.

That said in a manual car such as mine, when I shifted gears while getting on the gas even a little it would bang real bad. I thought there was something wrong with the clutch or some other component. I changed to poly and the banging is gone, which I really like. The poly mounts absorb the energy while the solids transmit it right through the car when you shift a little harder than normal, so it's poly for me now and I am getting a spreader bar to stiffen the front end up.

This might not be an issue with and automatic car.

Wayne, what was banging though. Metal to metal banging usually means something loose or able to move. I'm sure you'd know but were the barrel bolts good and frig'n tight?

Automatic car. TH350 until it blows up, then I will re-attack that.

Do you have a source?

DB is holding out on me for pics he could find by GIS "Panama City Beach Spring Break" + safe search is "OFF"

No seriously the spreader bar is just an adjustable bar and bracket set that connect the two upper A-arm mounts to structurally stiffen the frame. A few of your vendors have the kit, I think VB&P has the most popular one.

Everything was tight, when you have rubber mounts they absorb the load the gear change has, all I did was change to poly and the bang between the gears is gone, everything else is the same.

Like I said probably not noticeable on auto car

Nice. And the price is not outrageous. Looks like this confirms my move to an electric fan though.

On another note from the pushrod thread, I have given up and concluded the guy at Comp is an idiot.
